The USLA Luso-Cross Registry
The US Lusitano Association (USLA) proudly announces the creation of the USLA Luso-Cross Registry—a significant step forward in recognizing the versatility, talent, and appeal of Cross-bred Lusitano horses. This registry specifically recognizes horses with exactly one Lusitano parent, emphasizing their superior qualities inherited from Lusitano lineage combined with the strengths of other breeds, creating a unique and dynamic equine athlete.
Registry Classes:
-
Cruzado Português: Horses with one fully revised and APSL-registered Lusitano parent, and the second parent must also be APSL-registered but not revised, creating a special class within the registry.
-
Luso-Sport: Horses with one fully revised and APSL-registered Lusitano parent, and the other parent may belong to any breed or registration.
Eligibility Requirements:
-
Parentage: Each horse entered into either class must have exactly one Lusitano parent fully revised and registered in the adult APSL studbook. The second parent for Cruzado Português must be APSL-registered but not revised. For Luso-Sport, the second parent can be from any breed.
-
Breed Flexibility: In the Luso-Sport class, the non-Lusitano parent may belong to any breed, allowing breeders to purposefully enhance specific athletic or aesthetic traits suitable for diverse equestrian disciplines such as Dressage, Working Equitation, Eventing, Driving or Jumping.
-
DNA Verification: To uphold the highest standards of integrity and pedigree accuracy, all horses entered into the USLA Luso-Cross Registry are required to undergo DNA testing as part of their registration process.
Application Process:
-
Become a USLA Member.

Fill out the USLA Luso-Cross Registry registration form. Note that the breeder is always the first owner of the horse.
-
Transfer of Ownership: If a transfer of ownership is required, fill out the USLA Transfer of Ownership form in conjunction with registration.
-
Pay for the registration (and, if needed, the transfer).
-
Complete the Veterinary Process: USLA will send the necessary documents, including forms required to be completed by your veterinarian and returned to USLA.
-
