The US Lusitano Association Registry

The United States Lusitano Association is delighted to announce the launch of the USLA Lusitano Registry. This registry automatically includes all eligible APSL-registered Lusitanos in the United States and Canada.

USLA is the only organization in the United States and Canada authorized by APSL in Portugal to register horses as ""Lusitanos.""

What horses are eligible for the USLA Lusitano Registry?

To be included in the USLA Lusitano Registry, a horse must be APSL Registered and located in the United States or Canada. For a certificate to be issued, the horse must be in the name of the current owner in with APSL.

The registry produces beautiful certificates that document membership of a horse in the registry and includes recognition that the Lusitano is also registered with APSL (Associação Portuguesa de Criadores do Cavalo Puro Sangue Lusitano).

Studbook Rules

The USLA Registry follows the APSL Studbook Rules without exception. This means that only the offspring of APSL Registered horses who have been entered in the Studbook may be registered with USLA.

Why can't the USLA Certificate of Registration be used as proof of ownership of a horse?

USLA registration papers are not a Title of Ownership. They cannot be signed over from one owner to the next. When a horse is sold, the Bill of Sale is the document that shows that the horse legally is being sold by the seller and bought by the buyer. USLA issues registration certificates in the name of the current owner of record. If the horse is sold, use the Transfer of Ownership form to officially change the owner in APSL and USLA records.

After the sale of the horse, the Transfer of Ownership should be filled out, and new APSL documents will be issued as part of the transfer. If desired, a new USLA document may be requested as well.

Do I Need USLA Papers?

USLA Papers are optional; however beginning in 2023, we will use them for our awards programs.
