Who We Are
The United States Lusitano Association (USLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation, promotion, and appreciation of the Pure Blood Lusitano horse in the United States and Canada. Founded in August 2020, USLA operates under an exclusive APSL Protocol, serving as a sister organization in North America. We collaborate directly with the Portuguese Lusitano Horse Association (APSL) to maintain rigorous standards for registration and revision, supporting the integrity and growth of the Lusitano breed across North America.
Our Mission
At USLA, we are committed to:
- Maintaining Excellence: We administer the registration and transfers of all Lusitano horses in the United States and Canada, ensuring adherence to the highest standards.
- Enhancing Breed Integrity: Through the USLA Registry, which includes all APSL-registered Lusitanos in North America, we organize and administer inspections necessary for approving Lusitano breeding stock.
- Promoting the Breed: We actively promote the Lusitano through participation in and hosting of various equine events, aiming to elevate the breed's profile within the equine industry.
- Educating Our Community: We provide educational opportunities tailored for Lusitano breeders, owners, and enthusiasts, fostering a well-informed and passionate community.
- Supporting Sport and Culture: As representatives of Lusitano breeders and owners, we support the participation of Lusitanos in equestrian sports, contributing to the breed’s recognition and success in competitive arenas.
Our Unique Position
USLA holds the distinct honor of being the only organization authorized to register Lusitano horses with the APSL in Portugal for the regions of the United States and Canada. This exclusive right underscores our critical role in upholding the breed’s legacy and ensuring its future prosperity in North America.
