USLA Announces Rising Stars Working Equitation Invitational at 2024 Lusitano Conference

This October, the US Lusitano Association (USLA) invites you to experience the elegance and versatility of the Lusitano breed at the 2024 USLA Lusitano Conference. The USLA Rising Stars Working Equitation Invitational, a prestigious competition showcasing the skill of these magnificent horses, will take place at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida, on October 18 and 19.

A Gathering for Lusitano Admirers and Aficionados

Open to APSL-registered Lusitanos, this event provides a perfect platform for owners and riders who are members of the USLA to demonstrate their prowess in Working Equitation. It’s an opportunity for the broader equestrian community to come together and enjoy the performance of these exceptional horses in a competitive setting.

A Showcase of Skills Across Two Levels

Reflecting the structure seen in European Working Equitation competitions under the World Association for Working Equitation (WAWE), the USLA event will offer two competitive levels: Debutante and the WAWE Challenge Cup. These levels are designed to accommodate a range of skills and experiences:

• Debutante: This level allows riding with two hands and requires flying changes. It is designed for horse and rider pairs not yet ready to perform with only one hand on the reins, focusing on developing fundamental skills in a competitive setting.
• WAWE Challenge Cup: This group follows the 2023 WAWE International Working Equitation Regulations precisely. It is the pinnacle of competition, designed for the most skilled and experienced participants who showcase the highest standard of working equitation.

Three Phases of Intense Competition

Over the course of the event, participants will compete in three of the four traditional phases of Working Equitation:

1. Dressage: Scheduled for October 18, this phase will test the grace and harmony between horse and rider, demonstrating the classical training of the Lusitano breed.
2. Ease of Handling (EOH): On October 19, this first phase of the day involves navigating through a series of obstacles that mimic fieldwork, requiring precise and fluid movements to showcase the horse’s training and the rider’s skill.
3. Speed Trial: Following the EOH, the Speed phase will elevate the excitement as competitors tackle the same course aiming for the fastest time without compromising accuracy, providing a thrilling spectacle of agility and quickness.

Awards and Celebration

The event will conclude with an awards ceremony on October 20, where the achievements of the top competitors will be celebrated. This day will not only honor the winners but also provide an opportunity for participants and spectators to reflect on the spirited competition and the exceptional display of Lusitano talent.
